SeaChange

Lead organisation: Marine Biological Association (Non-governmental)

The overarching goals of the Sea Change project are to bring about a fundamental “Sea Change” in the way European citizens view their relationship with the sea, by empowering them – as ‘Ocean Literate’ citizens - to take direct and sustainable action towards healthy seas and ocean, healthy communities and ultimately - a healthy planet.

Policy uptake explanation

Sea Change will develop a road-map for an effective science-society-policy interface, focusing in particular on harnessing the collective energies and capacities of stakeholders and creating meaningful opportunities for public participation. The challenge of Ocean Literacy in this context is to link science and the connection people have with nature as well as the indispensable role of governance in connecting worlds of thought and action for the purpose of promoting ocean sustainability.
